Job Title: Principal Engineer - Geotechnical Expert

Atlas Technical Consultants is seeking a highly experienced Principal Engineer - Geotechnical Expert to join our California team. As a key member of our geotechnical engineering division, you will play a critical role in providing technical guidance on geotechnical engineering aspects of various projects, ensuring conformance with local, state, and federal guidelines.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical guidance on geotechnical engineering aspects of projects, including geotechnical design, investigation, and analysis.
  • Lead geotechnical design and analysis for buildings and infrastructure projects, including residential/commercial buildings, bridges, highways, railways, airports, pipelines, and levees/basins.
  • Direct and supervise subsurface explorations, laboratory testing, geotechnical data interpretation, and geotechnical instrumentation monitoring programs.
  • Supervise and lead geotechnical design and analysis for shallow and deep foundations, earthworks recommendations, slope stability and seepage analyses, lateral earth pressure calculations, and other pertinent analyses.
  • Liaise with clients, stakeholders, and governmental personnel to ensure that all geotechnical concerns are addressed comprehensively.
  • Mentor and train junior geotechnical engineers and foster their professional development.
  • Provide support for business development activities by fostering and maintaining long-term client relationships and developing a client base for providing high-level geotechnical engineering services.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering; Master's Degree in Geotechnical Engineering preferred.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in geotechnical engineering practice with an emphasis on geotechnical design and analysis, geotechnical field investigation, and construction supervision.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer and Geotechnical Engineer in the state of California.
  • Local experience and familiarity with the local engineering practice required.
Technical Requirements:
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills essential for team-based working.
  • Extensive geotechnical background including a strong fundamental knowledge of principles of geotechnical engineering, soil and rock mechanics, earthquake engineering, pavement engineering, and groundwater hydrology.
  • Experience in construction oversight for foundation construction and earthwork observation required.
  • Experience with geotechnical software including slope stability packages, pile modeling tools, Finite Element Modeling, and site response software preferred.
  • Familiarity with Caltrans and AASHTO standards, guidelines, and deliverables required.
