About the Role

Penn State University is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Gift Planning Officer to join our team in the Division of Development and Alumni Relations. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in securing philanthropic support for the University's future.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement strategic plans to identify, cultivate, and solicit major gifts from individuals, trusts, and foundations.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including donors, alumni, and university leadership.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop and implement fundraising strategies, including prospect research, donor engagement, and stewardship.
  • Travel extensively to meet with donors, alumni, and other stakeholders to build relationships and secure support.
  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the University's needs, ambitions, and values, including diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Stay up-to-date on best practices in gift planning, including tax law and estate management practices.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree plus a minimum of 3 years of work-related experience in gift planning, fundraising, or a related field.
  • Proven track record of success in securing major gifts and meeting fundraising goals.
  • Strong understanding of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in higher education.
  • Subject matter expertise in gift planning, with strong understanding and/or training in tax law and estate management practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a particular sensitivity to sophisticated, high-net worth audiences.
  • Impeccable writing, presentation skills, and ability to utilize various technologies.
  • Passion for higher education and an understanding of complex institutions.
  • Commitment to professional development, learning, and being mentored.
