Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Patient Care Technician to join our Surgical Services team at Northwestern Memorial Healthcare. As a Patient Care Technician, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting our nursing staff in delivering high-quality patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide Basic Patient Care: Perform basic patient care activities, including monitoring vital signs, taking blood glucose measurements, and recording intake and output, under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
  • Assist with Personal Care: Assist patients with tending to personal care and activities of daily living, including bathing, grooming, and eating.
  • Report Abnormal Findings: Report any abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental, and emotional conditions to nursing staff.
  • Maintain a Clean Environment: Assist with keeping patient rooms clean and orderly.
  • Communicate Effectively: Utilize critical thinking skills to successfully demonstrate the ability to prioritize and complete unit work quickly as the needs of the unit, patients, and staff change.
  • Collaborate with Team Members: Serve as a liaison between patient care units and all other patient-related departments.
Requirements
  • Nursing Students: Nursing students who have completed one clinical rotation.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant: Certified Nursing Assistant, Certified Medical Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician, or nursing school students with one semester of clinical completed.
  • CPR Certification: CPR – Basic Life Support.
  • Physical Demands: Physical demands required for this role include lift/carry up to 50 pounds and a push/pull force up to 50 pounds.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Phlebotomy Experience: Phlebotomy experience.
  • Nursing Assistant Program: Graduate of an accredited Nursing Assistant program or Graduate of Phlebotomy course.
