Senior Operations Supervisor at Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation

Educational Background and Experience Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Management, Aviation Maintenance, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience that enables successful performance of job responsibilities. A minimum of 18 months of managerial experience with accountability for employee relations activities, including performance evaluations, hiring and termination recommendations, compensation suggestions, and fostering employee development in a technical environment (e.g., aviation maintenance, general manufacturing).

Position Objective:

Under moderate supervision, oversees the daily operations of one or more departments to fulfill production objectives in an aircraft manufacturing setting. Ensures compliance with Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) standards, quality metrics, productivity goals, budgetary constraints, and housekeeping practices. Prepares employees and teams for future demands through training and development initiatives.

Job Responsibilities

Core Duties:
  1. Delegates production tasks, work plans, and scheduling requirements to department leads and coordinators to ensure compliance with FAA regulations.
  2. Collaborates with engineering, finance, materials, quality, and other departments to meet schedules and budgets while resolving issues.
  3. Assists in diagnosing and resolving production process challenges with existing processes and equipment, focusing on cost minimization and avoiding delivery delays.
  4. Implements quality standards; monitors and addresses workmanship concerns.
  5. Conducts regular audits to ensure adherence to Quality Assurance Procedures (QAP); identifies necessary updates in the QAP and works with the Quality Assurance team to develop and implement revised or new protocols.
  6. Implements manufacturing strategies for the department(s) that incorporate Lean Six Sigma and continuous improvement principles. Leads Lean Six Sigma initiatives.
  7. Encourages and guides assigned employees and teams towards ongoing process and performance enhancements.
  8. Ensures that the department(s) are adequately resourced to fulfill assigned responsibilities. Enforces company policies and procedures.
  9. Fosters a safe working environment; ensures compliance with stringent housekeeping, 5S standards, and safety protocols; verifies that tools and equipment meet safety regulations; leads trend analysis and root cause investigations for accidents.
  10. Contributes to the development of the business unit's strategic plans to ensure that budgetary, product cost, productivity, inventory, delivery performance, quality objectives, and operational goals are achieved across the department(s).
Additional Responsibilities:
  1. Develops subordinate personnel to possess the technical skills, training, and certifications necessary for their roles.
  2. Promotes innovation and maintains awareness of best practices within the company and the manufacturing sector.
  3. Ensures departmental emergency action plans align with the business unit's Business Continuity Plan and can be executed effectively.
  4. May involve conducting flight tests on aircraft as required in support of aircraft certification and final phase testing.

  1. Demonstrated leadership capability and effectiveness in a supervisory role.
  2. Proven ability to collaborate as a team player and achieve results.
  3. Knowledgeable in lean manufacturing principles.
  4. Skilled in utilizing computerized database management (Excel) and presentation software (PowerPoint).
