Job Summary

The System Administrator I is a key member of our IT team, responsible for installing and supporting the company's servers, software, and networking infrastructure. This includes installing new servers and software, troubleshooting hardware and software issues, and providing application support and general assistance with Information Security and networking duties.

This role serves as a support function to more senior system administrators and management, responding to routine tasks, incidents, and other basic operational needs in supporting the company's systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary contact for staff support in daily operations.
  • Anticipate, identify, troubleshoot, and resolve functionality issues on assigned servers, including proactive administrative measures such as monitoring and analyzing system event logs.
  • Perform standard storage maintenance activities, such as disk defragmentation and authorized file purges, to maintain optimal performance of data storage subsystems for assigned servers.
  • Perform preventative hardware maintenance on assigned servers.
  • Routinely monitor and analyze system performance of assigned servers, reporting notable findings or observations to management.
  • Manage file system permissions on assigned servers in coordination with information system security personnel and application administrators.
  • Routinely monitor usage activity and perform audits on assigned servers to identify potential or actual unauthorized access.
  • Provide and run backup procedures to ensure data integrity of assigned servers.
  • Coordinate with database and application administrators to identify applicable server system requirements and resolve operational issues.
  • Review system configurations of assigned servers for security deficiencies and implement server hardening without adversely affecting required system functionality.
  • Implement consistent security configurations using active directory and group policy technologies.
  • Participate in and support capacity planning and the development of long-term strategic goals for systems and software in conjunction with department management and database and application administrators.
  • Participate in and support risk analysis and incident response activities as they relate to assigned servers.
  • Install, configure, and test new servers as directed.
  • Maintain complete and accurate documentation on system configurations, system administrative procedures, and administrative procedure results of assigned servers.
  • In coordination with database and application administrators, test operating system patches and upgrades, and install approved patches and upgrades on a mutually agreed schedule.
  • Investigate new techniques, equipment, protocols, standards, and data processing methods applicable to credit union operations, evaluating technical requirements for desirable emerging products and upgrades to existing hardware/software, and making recommendations for system upgrades or procedural changes as appropriate.
  • Keep abreast of state-of-the-art hardware and software developments.
  • Ensure all applicable software licenses are maintained.
  • Contribute effectively to the accomplishment of team goals, objectives, and activities.
  • Understand compliance issues and attend training as they relate to System Administration, including but not limited to NCUA Rules and Regulations part 748, Bank Secrecy Act; Reg P; Patriot Act.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Experience working in a Windows Server environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new systems and software through a combination of self-study and on-the-job training.
  • Some experience working on projects of varying size and complexity.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret technical documentation into actionable steps.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work and collaborate in a small team setting.
  • Job-related travel as required.
Education/Experience
  • Education or experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in computer science or related field, in addition to 2 plus years' experience operating and supporting Windows Service systems. Financial software systems experience is preferred but not required.
