Engineering Technician I

Job Summary
This position is responsible for assisting the Pavement Investigation Unit personnel by obtaining and evaluating pavement field data at different locations statewide each week. The ideal candidate will have preferred experience/education in the following areas:
*Road construction testing materials.
*Testing field materials.
*Working with Microsoft Office software to produce reports and/or spreadsheets.
Key Responsibilities
Operation of equipment for gathering data, Dynamic Friction Tester, Falling Weight Deflectometer, and Grounding Penetrating Radar systems for design and research purposes.
Collect, process and evaluation field data, solve computation, create reports, enter and retrieve information from equipment computer databases.
Working Conditions
Weekly statewide travel required. Work is performed primarily in the field in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, humidity, wind, rain and snow. May include exposure to: Sunlight, dust, pollen, chemicals, rough/rugged terrain, insects and reptiles, noxious plants and infected trash, moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, toxic fumes/chemicals and/or airborne particles, and hazardous chemicals. High speed/high volume traffic and loud noises, confined spaces; Falls and bruises, considerable physical strain; Standing for extended periods of time doing traffic control or walking long distances; Hand dexterity required for some duties; numerous specific vision abilities to include: close, distance, color and peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus; some climbing, reaching, kneeling and crawling to perform job duties; ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Work may also be performed in an office setting with exposure to visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and telephone usage to include working with faxes, copiers and printers. May be required to work irregular hours and is subject to call outs for emergencies. Willingness to accept change of geographical assignments. Interaction with the public by phone and in person. Frequent temporary assignments that require travel and extended overnight stays to include weekends, holidays, and overtime are required.

Education and years of experience must be related to the purpose of the position.
If Minimum Qualification requires a specific number of semester hours in a field (e.g. 6 semester hours in Accounting), applicants MUST have those semester hours in order to meet the minimum qualifications. No substitutions apply for semester hours.
Employment Requirements
Employment requires successful completion of a pre-employment physical exam and is conditional pending results. Business reference check and driver's license verification are required and employment is conditional pending results.
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive a Defensive Driving Course certificate as a condition of continued employment.
