Data Engineer I

About the Role:
The IT Data Engineer I will play a crucial part in building and maintaining the infrastructure and systems required for data storage, processing, and analysis. This role is responsible for developing and maintaining the data pipelines that enable efficient and reliable data integration, transformation, and delivery for all data users across the department.
Key Responsibilities:
- Execute Tier 1 Troubleshooting technical issues directly with customers and partners;
- Clearly communicate and consult with managerial, engineering, and technical personnel to clarify intent, identify problems, and suggest changes;
- Be Responsible for the economical migration of on-premises based workloads into Cloud infrastructure;
- Automate the elasticity of Cloud services to minimize costs during light usage and to maximize performance during peak volumes;
- Optimize and consolidate multiple Cloud subscriptions;
- Troubleshoot and support issues related to performance, security or capabilities of Cloud-based solutions;
- Integrate Cloud-based solutions with other Cloud or on-premises workloads;
- Collaborate with teams to provide technical guidance for Cloud options and;
- Identify inadequate or inefficient systems and suggests alternatives to reduce cost or increase efficiency to enable the company to reach its goals.
Requirements:
- Experience in programming languages such as Java, Python, and C/C++ and tools such as SQL, R, SAS, or Excel;
- Understanding of modern data architectures and concepts such as cloud services (AWS, Azure, GCP) and modern data lake tools (Snowflake, Databricks);
- Experience with database technologies such as SQL, NoSQL, Oracle, Hadoop, or Teradata and;
- Problem-solving skills, including debugging skills, allowing the determination of sources of issues in unfamiliar code or systems, and the ability to recognize and solve repetitive problems.
Education and Experience:
A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or related quantitative field and one (1) year of combined experience in cloud engineering, cloud migration, data engineering, data integration, streaming data development, data warehousing, data curation, data analysis, design, storage, and data protection and security.
Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related quantitative field and/or direct experience in master data management, data analytics, or data engineering cloud engineering totaling five (5) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Working Conditions:
Office setting with extensive computer usage, may require after hours work, and some travel.
