Position Overview

Reporting to the Director of Budget and Restricted Funds and Workday Finance, the Grants Specialist plays a vital role in managing financial operations and restricted funds at the college level. This role encompasses a variety of fiscal responsibilities that support departmental or programmatic functions, including the research of financial data, reconciliations, and the preparation of detailed reports. The position adheres to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), as well as state and federal regulations and institutional policies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct financial reporting for external grants while collaborating with faculty and campus personnel to ensure adherence to financial and grant compliance standards.
  • Research and analyze financial data, revising processes or policies as necessary, and present findings to the supervisor.
  • Develop and maintain databases, spreadsheets, and other fiscal reporting tools, ensuring accuracy and quality assurance through regular audits.
  • Create and facilitate State and Federal Grant proposals utilizing Workday.
  • Provide technical support to users of various databases and systems, including the college accounting system, assisting in the resolution of discrepancies.
  • Record transactions in journals and/or ledgers, ensuring accurate balancing and reconciliation of entries.
  • Manage spreadsheets for Restricted Funds and Deferred Revenue across the college.
  • Assist the Director of Budget and Controller with grant status updates for all college units, offering analysis and recommendations for corrective actions when necessary.
  • Maintain regular, reliable attendance and foster collegial relationships within the workplace.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Compensation

The salary for this position is $19.76 per hour.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The ideal candidate will possess knowledge of accounting principles, database management, various software applications, and relevant laws and regulations. Strong customer service skills and the ability to comprehend technical documents are essential. Candidates should be adept at applying policies and procedures relevant to the department or program, conducting research, and preparing comprehensive reports.

Physical Demands

This position requires the ability to perform essential functions in a standard office environment, which may include prolonged periods of sitting or standing, lifting up to 25 lbs., and using office equipment, including computers, with repetitive hand movements.

Qualifications

A minimum of an Associate's degree in Accounting Technology or Finance is required. Additional qualifications may be considered based on institutional recruitment needs.

Preferred Experience

Experience in Grant Accounting or a related field is preferred, along with familiarity with Workday and Microsoft Office. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and advanced proficiency in Excel are also desirable.
