Job Overview

Objective

The Field Control Systems Engineer collaborates with on-site teams to develop, optimize, and troubleshoot RTU and PLC programming/configuration for various devices, including Omni, Autopilot, TotalFlow, and Bristol RTU, as well as ROCLink and RSLogix. This role involves working closely with field technicians to diagnose, troubleshoot, and enhance field communication systems. Site visits are required to assess communication equipment, build rapport with field personnel, and strategize the integration of new pipeline assets. The Field Control Systems Engineer serves as a key liaison between field personnel and the SCADA Team for special initiatives and modifications affecting the SCADA infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

Site Setup and Maintenance

  • Collaborate with local teams to configure and install modem/routers as necessary.
  • Replace and maintain network hardware at field locations and offices for the SCADA OT environment, including terminal servers, routers, switches, and firewalls, ensuring secure communications between devices.
  • Schedule regular site visits.
  • Assist with new meter installations.
  • Support RTU configuration, installation, and replacements.
  • Conduct functional testing and validation of SCADA field devices.
  • Work with field personnel to troubleshoot inaccurate measurement data.
  • Poll for missing meter data in the Measurement system.
  • Collaborate with field personnel on communication equipment modifications and upgrades.
  • Facilitate point-to-point verification, coordinating with field technicians, vendors, and/or control center staff.
  • Assist field personnel in remotely accessing field devices.
  • Partner with field personnel and communication providers to resolve communication outages.
  • Maintain strict change control procedures and documentation.

Cybersecurity Responsibilities

  • Monitor endpoint security and manage incident response for any irregular or malicious activities.
  • Support compliance requirements for critical pipeline TSA SD-02, including annual third-party penetration testing and vulnerability assessments.

Communication Support

  • Ensure network circuits provide redundant, secure communication between sites and data centers.
  • Collaborate with VSAT and cellular providers to optimize and secure communications.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent education and/or experience.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience is required.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a small team.
  • A positive, service-oriented attitude is essential.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to perform effectively under pressure while maintaining accuracy.
  • Experience with PLC programming and protocols is necessary.
  • Solid understanding of TCP/IP networks and troubleshooting.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of networking, data radio systems, and relevant technologies.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with clients, vendors, and internal teams.
  • Familiarity with polling software such as AutoSol (ACM) and KepWare products.
  • Experience with SCADA software like GeoSCADA, ClearSCADA, or Cygnet is preferred.
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation and work irregular hours as required.

Working Conditions

  • This position may allow for remote work, with occasional requirements to visit offices for project-related meetings.
  • Frequent travel to field offices may be necessary.
  • Physical requirements include light work, with the ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
