Job Summary

The Special Education Paraeducator will work with students with developmental disabilities and physical needs in the Designed Instruction room. This is a 192-day school year position with 7 hours per day.

Responsibilities

  • Provide instruction in core academic areas designed by teachers/specialists.
  • Assist the special education teacher in implementing student Individual Education Plans, including accommodations and modifications.
  • Participate as a contributing member of a collaborative team.
  • Assist with behavioral and social skills programs as designed and supervised by certificated staff.
  • Implement district de-escalation and soft-restraint techniques as needed.
  • Assist students with physical and mobility needs, personal care, and pre-vocational activities.
  • Manage student equipment and assistive technology.
  • Supervise and promote safety of students in multiple settings.
  • Administer, monitor, and document medication following district policy and procedures.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to perform job responsibilities.
  • High school diploma or equivalent and 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits from an accredited college, or a bachelor's degree.
  • Core Competencies completion within one year if hired.
  • Interest in working with students with disabilities.
  • One year of experience with students or adults with disabilities preferred.
  • Ability to respond to aggressive and physical behaviors.
  • Successful completion of district de-escalation/soft restraint training.
  • Ability to kneel, bend, and work on the floor with students.
  • Provide personal care assistance to students.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • Positive relationships with students, teachers, parents, and administrators.
