Job Summary

The City of Spokane Public Defender's Office is seeking dedicated and skilled public defense attorneys to join our team. As a Public Defender I, you will be responsible for providing high-quality legal representation to clients in need. Key Responsibilities
  • Represent clients in court, including first appearances and arraignments
  • Gather evidence and conduct legal research to formulate defense strategies
  • Interview clients and witnesses, and work with investigators to gather case facts
  • Prepare legal briefs, develop strategy, arguments, and testimony for presentation in court
  • Negotiate resolutions with prosecutors on non-trial cases
  • Represent clients in court, examining and cross-examining witnesses, and summarizing cases to juries
Requirements
  • Membership in good standing with the Washington State Bar Association
  • Graduation from an accredited law school
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information
