Public Defender I Position

The City of Spokane Public Defender's Office is seeking dedicated and skilled public defense attorneys to join our team. As a Public Defender I, you will be responsible for providing high-quality legal representation to clients in need. Key Responsibilities- Represent clients in court, including first appearances and arraignments
- Gather evidence and conduct legal research to formulate defense strategies
- Interview clients and witnesses, and work with investigators to gather case facts
- Prepare legal briefs, develop strategy, arguments, and testimony for presentation in court
- Negotiate resolutions with prosecutors on non-trial cases
- Represent clients in court, examining and cross-examining witnesses, and summarizing cases to juries
- Membership in good standing with the Washington State Bar Association
- Graduation from an accredited law school
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong communication and negotiation skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information
