Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Associate to join our team at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting research on the effects of hydropower operations on fish passage and survival in the Pacific Northwest region.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct fieldwork, including deploying, retrieving, and maintaining acoustic and radio telemetry equipment, as well as tagging and handling live fish.
  • Collect and analyze data, including data from fieldwork and laboratory studies.
  • Assist with laboratory studies, including handling fish, conducting necropsies, and maintaining fish populations in aquaculture facilities.
  • Develop and implement study designs, including mark-recapture study designs and survival estimation.
  • Collaborate with a large interdisciplinary team to achieve project goals.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in fisheries, environmental sciences, or a related field within the past 24 months or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum overall GPA of 3.0 required.
  • Desirable qualifications include knowledge of telemetry study design and array maintenance, experience with fieldwork, handling and tagging live fish, managing large datasets, and data analysis.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing project requirements.
Working Conditions

The successful candidate will be required to work in a variety of environments, including industrial hydroelectric projects, on water, and in inclement weather. Long hours and heavy lifting may be required.
