Job Summary

Pacific Northwest National Laboratory is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Post Masters Research Associate to join our team in the Fisheries Hydropower research group. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting research on the effects of hydropower operations on passage and survival of juvenile salmon and lamprey throughout the Pacific Northwest.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct fieldwork, data collection, data analysis, and report writing
  • Deploy, retrieve, maintain, and test acoustic and radio telemetry equipment
  • Tag or assist with surgical implantation of transmitters in fish
  • Transport and release of live tagged fish according to a detailed time schedule
  • Assist with laboratory studies handling fish, conducting in-depth necropsies, and maintaining fish populations in aquaculture facilities
Qualifications
  • Master's degree in fisheries, environmental sciences, or a biology-related field within the last two years
  • Knowledge of telemetry study design and array maintenance is desirable
  • Experience with field work, handling and tagging live fish, and managing large datasets
  • Familiarity with mark-recapture study designs and survival estimation, multiple regression modeling, and/or maximum likelihood estimation is desirable
  • Boat driving experience is desirable
