Aquatic Safety Specialist

At the Fairbanks North Star Borough, we are seeking an Aquatic Safety Specialist to join our team. As an Aquatic Safety Specialist, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety of spectators, participants, and staff involved in aquatic activities. This includes monitoring and enforcing proper safety rules and activities in the swimming area, performing lifesaving and first aid procedures as needed, and providing routine clean-up, sanitizing, and general maintenance in the pool and locker room areas.
Responsibilities
• Monitor and enforce proper safety rules and activities in the swimming area
• Perform lifesaving and first aid procedures as needed
• Provide routine clean-up, sanitizing, and general maintenance in the pool and locker room areas
• Perform chlorine and PH water testing
Requirements
• Eighteen years of age at time of employment
• Possess and maintain certification in Standard First Aid, Lifeguarding, and CPR-PR as recognized by the American Red Cross (or equivalent)
• Ability to deal with the public in a pleasant, tactful, and courteous manner
Working Environment
This position falls under the Borough's Blood Borne Pathogen (BBP) Exposure Control Program as it is reasonably anticipated that infrequent exposure to blood or other bodily fluids may occur while performing some job duties. The recreation facility where this position is located has good, clean conditions with minor accident probability. The position requires short periods of moderate lifting, pushing, or pulling.
