As an Inspector General Criminal Investigator at the CIA, your primary role will involve conducting thorough investigations into claims of fraud, waste, abuse, and misconduct related to CIA personnel and operations globally.
The Office of the Inspector General (OIG) operates independently within the CIA. You will work autonomously or as part of a team, performing tasks such as interviewing witnesses, collecting sworn statements, administering oaths, gathering evidence, analyzing documentation, drafting reports, and providing testimony in both criminal and administrative proceedings. Regular interaction with various levels of CIA personnel, contractors, and other law enforcement agencies, including Inspectors General and the Department of Justice, will be part of your duties. Some travel may be necessary for official responsibilities.
OIG Criminal Investigators hold a position of significant trust, and you will be expected to uphold the standards outlined in the Attorney General Guidelines, the Council of Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency, and CIA policies.
Position responsibilities align with the 1811 (Criminal Investigator) job series as defined by the Office of Personnel Management. This role qualifies as a primary law enforcement position under both the Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS) and Federal Employee Retirement System (FERS). Eligible candidates will be able to receive or maintain Federal law enforcement retirement benefits under either CSRS or FERS and are subject to mandatory retirement provisions upon reaching age 57 with a minimum of 20 years of service as a law enforcement officer.

Essential Qualifications
- A minimum of three (3) years of investigative experience within the Federal sector.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the capacity to engage with diverse groups, sometimes in high-pressure situations.
- Analytical skills to assess facts and evidence.
- Willingness to travel as required.
- Completion of the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center's (FLETC) Criminal Investigator Training Program (CITP) or equivalent, or a commitment to attend and successfully complete CITP. This program is a demanding twelve (12) week training course at FLETC's facility.
- The maximum entry age for this position is 37 years, unless the candidate has prior Federal service in a covered law enforcement role.
- Ability to meet the CIA's minimum requirements, including U.S. citizenship and passing a background investigation.
- Experience within the Intelligence Community.
- Familiarity with the Federal Inspector General community.
- Expertise in areas such as:
- Investigating procurement fraud.
- Finance, accounting, or contracting.
- Digital forensics or investigations.
- Counterintelligence investigations.
- A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
- A minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4-point scale (this requirement may be waived for candidates with significant federal investigative experience).
