Battery Performance Validation Specialist

As a Battery Performance Validation Specialist at L&T Technology Services, you will join a dedicated battery team collaborating with various cross-functional partners in systems engineering, thermal engineering, and software engineering to ensure that the battery module achieves the required systems-level performance standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with validation engineers to implement comprehensive test plans.
  • Allocate testing resources effectively, including test channels, equipment, and personnel.
  • Establish processes, frameworks, and best practices to enhance validation across diverse programs.
  • Conduct electrical and thermal characterization of batteries under varying usage conditions.
  • Create detailed test plans for different product categories and oversee their execution.
  • Design and develop test boards and fixtures to assess battery performance.
  • Manage external vendors and testing laboratories to create testing equipment and conduct necessary evaluations.
  • Communicate test results to a wide audience and collaborate with design teams to optimize performance.
  • Assist in technical root cause analysis and resolution of issues identified during testing.
  • Support hardware integration, focusing on interfacing hardware and connection challenges.
  • Proactively address problems related to new testing protocols.
  • Provide weekly updates on test status, equipment utilization, issues, and forecasts.
  • Identify system interactions and design factors affecting battery module performance, such as charge time influenced by system thermals and battery age.
  • Characterize battery gas gauge performance at both module and system levels.
  • Travel domestically and/or internationally to collaborate with suppliers and testing facilities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Materials, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in the validation of Li-ion batteries.
  • Proficiency with laboratory testing equipment, including oscilloscopes, power supplies, electronic loads, and functional generators.
  • Experience with scripting languages such as Python.
  • Familiarity with battery testing equipment like Maccors and Arbins.
  • Prior experience in consumer electronics is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Over 5 years of experience in the validation of Li-ion batteries.
  • Strong knowledge of battery protection circuits and communication protocols such as I2C and UART.
  • Solid electrical engineering background in both analog and digital circuits, including schematic and layout design tools.
  • Familiarity with statistical analysis tools and design of experiments (DOEs) using software such as JMP or Minitab.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a dynamic, team-oriented environment.
  • Demonstrated communication skills.
