  • Conduct electrical and thermal characterization of batteries under diverse usage scenarios.
  • Create comprehensive test plans for different product categories and oversee their execution.
  • Design and develop test boards and fixtures to assess battery performance.
  • Manage external vendors and testing laboratories to develop necessary test equipment and conduct testing as required.
  • Communicate results to a wide audience and collaborate with design teams to enhance performance.
  • Assist in technical root cause analysis and resolution of issues identified during testing.
  • Support hardware integration related to interfacing hardware and connection challenges.
  • Develop processes, frameworks, and best practices to streamline testing and validation across multiple programs.
  • Proactively address challenges that arise from new testing protocols.
  • Provide weekly updates on test status, equipment utilization, issues, and forecasts.
  • Identify system interactions and design factors affecting battery module performance, such as charge time influenced by system thermals and battery age, and assist in product claims regarding battery runtimes.
  • Characterize battery gas gauge performance at both module and system levels.
  • Travel domestically and/or internationally to suppliers and testing laboratories as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Materials, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering.
  • At least 3 years of experience in the validation of Li-ion batteries.
  • Familiarity with laboratory testing equipment, including oscilloscopes, power supplies, electronic loads, and functional generators.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python.
  • Experience with battery testing equipment like Maccors and Arbins.
  • Prior experience in consumer electronics is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5 or more years of experience in Li-ion battery validation.
  • Strong understanding of battery protection circuits and communication protocols such as I2C and UART.
  • Solid background in electrical engineering, particularly in analog and digital circuits, as well as schematic and layout capture tools.
  • Familiarity with statistical tools and design of experiments (DOEs), including software packages like JMP or Minitab.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a dynamic, team-oriented environment.
  • Demonstrated communication skills.
