Job Summary

Lead the Meetings & Special Events division, driving strategic development and implementation of departmental initiatives. Collaborate with the team to ensure seamless execution of property events, from sales to operations and back to sales. Focus on growing event revenues, maximizing financial performance, and meeting brand targets for customer satisfaction and employee engagement.

Candidate Profile

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED; 4 years experience in event management, food and beverage, sales and marketing, or related field. OR
  • 2-year degree from an accredited university in Hotel and Restaurant Management, Hospitality, Business Administration, or related major; 2 years experience in event management, food and beverage, sales and marketing, or related field.
Core Work ActivitiesManaging Meetings and Special Events Operations and Budgets
  • Conduct market research and analyze competition to inform product development and pricing strategies.
  • Collaborate with direct reports to review scheduled events and identify potential challenges or conflicts.
  • Ensure the property is informed of all groups that may impact operations.
  • Maintain meeting space and corresponding heart of the house areas to ensure cleanliness and quality standards.
  • Oversee furniture and equipment maintenance, ensuring inventory levels align with corporate guidelines.
  • Lead the execution of brand service initiatives in event management areas.
  • Develop an event management strategy aligned with the company's business strategy and lead its execution.
  • Conduct daily walk-throughs of the banquet floor to ensure client satisfaction and quality standards.
Leading Meetings and Special Events Teams
  • Hold the event management team accountable for desired service behaviors related to product and delivery.
  • Communicate a clear and consistent message regarding departmental goals to produce desired results.
  • Execute departmental goals in game plans.
  • Ensure brand and regional business initiatives are implemented and communicate follow-up actions to the team as necessary.
Managing Profitability
  • Encourage calculated risk-taking to generate incremental revenue and deliver excellent guest service.
  • Develop working relationships with outside vendors and establish prices and service agreements to enhance the event experience and increase additional revenue opportunities.
  • Create and achieve the annual banquet budget.
  • Focus on building the property's top-line revenue by supporting the execution of the annual Meetings & Special Events Marketing Plan and providing leadership on post-contractual upselling efforts.
Ensuring Exceptional Customer Service
  • Create an atmosphere in all event management operations areas that meets or exceeds guest expectations.
  • Consult with customers to determine objectives and requirements for events such as meetings, conferences, and conventions.
Conducting Human Resources Activities
  • Collaborate with Human Resources to ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Review property-specific event operations annually and make adjustments as necessary.
  • Review staffing levels to ensure guest service and operational needs are met.
  • Communicate and ensure departmental and property emergency procedures are executed when necessary.
  • Ensure regular, ongoing communication is happening in all areas of event management.
