Clinical Laboratory Assistant II

Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Clinical Laboratory Assistant II to join our team at PAMF-Palo Alto Medical Foundation PAD. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for collecting blood specimens, receiving, handling, and processing specimens for laboratory testing. You will interact with patients of diverse ages, backgrounds, values, beliefs, and behaviors, providing compassionate and effective care.
Responsibilities:
- Collects blood specimens and receives, handles, and processes specimens for laboratory testing.
- Interacts with patients of diverse ages, backgrounds, values, beliefs, and behaviors, providing compassionate and effective care.
- Receives, sorts, and accesses specimens, assigning them to appropriate pre-analytic and analytic workflow.
- Completes computerized tasks related to patient registration and/or test order entry, specimen collection, receiving, and processing.
- Performs basic post-analytic tasks, including distributing reports, storing, and/or retrieving specimens.
- Completes quality-related tasks, such as documentation of work, maintaining a clean, stocked, and safe work area, and monitoring pending work, as well as escalating priority work.
- Operates and/or uses basic pre-analytic lab equipment.
- Adheres to all local, state, and federal regulations, codes, policies, and procedures to ensure privacy and safety while delivering optimal patient care.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
- Certification as a Phlebotomy Technician I or II
- 1 year of recent relevant experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge and practice of standard principles, processes, procedures, and equipment related to ordering laboratory testing, collecting blood specimens, compassionately and effectively interacting with patients, and handling and processing biological specimens
- Ability to accurately, precisely, and reliably perform job duties and assigned tasks
- Ability to organize and prioritize job duties and assigned tasks for completion within expected timeframes
- Ability to compassionately and effectively interact with patients of diverse ages, backgrounds, values, beliefs, and behaviors
Working Conditions:
This is a short-hour position, working 19 hours per week, with a pay range of $31.60 to $39.50 per hour. Sutter Health is an equal opportunity employer and welcomes qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records.
