Phlebotomy Laboratory Technician II

Position Summary:
Responsible for the collection of blood samples, as well as the reception, handling, and processing of specimens for laboratory analysis. Engages with patients from various demographics, respecting their diverse backgrounds, values, and beliefs. Receives, categorizes, and logs specimens, directing them to the appropriate pre-analytic and analytic workflows. Completes electronic tasks related to patient registration and/or test order entry, specimen collection, and processing. Conducts basic post-analytic duties, including the distribution of reports and the storage or retrieval of specimens. Undertakes quality assurance tasks such as documenting work, maintaining a clean and stocked workspace, and monitoring pending tasks while prioritizing urgent work. Operates basic pre-analytic laboratory equipment. Complies with all relevant local, state, and federal regulations, codes, policies, and procedures to ensure patient privacy and safety while delivering high-quality care.Job Responsibilities:
EDUCATION:
High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE:
CPTI-Certified Phlebotomy Technician I
OR CPT II-Certified Phlebotomy Technician II
TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
Familiarity with standard principles, processes, procedures, and equipment related to:
* ordering laboratory tests,
* collecting blood samples,
* effectively and compassionately interacting with patients,
* handling and processing biological specimens routinely submitted for analysis.
Ability to perform job duties and assigned tasks accurately, precisely, and reliably.
* Ability to organize and prioritize tasks to meet expected deadlines.
* Ability to compassionately and effectively engage with patients from diverse backgrounds.
Workflow Management Skills:
* Ability to respond appropriately to:
* fluctuations in workload,
* unexpected challenges such as equipment failures,
* shift transitions,
* urgent test orders,
* specimen integrity concerns,
* regular reviews of pending tasks and priority assignments.
Adherence to Practices & Procedures:
* Ability to follow established practices and procedures in sequence.
* Knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal regulations aimed at ensuring patient privacy and safety.
Applied Knowledge, Critical Thinking & Problem Solving:
* Strong critical thinking skills for effective decision-making.
* Ability to recognize and appropriately escalate complex issues and unexpected outcomes.
* Proficient verbal and written communication skills.
