Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Fire Safety Specialist to join our team at the University of Minnesota. As a key member of our campus safety team, you will be responsible for ensuring the highest level of fire safety and protection for our students, faculty, and staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct regular fire inspections of University buildings and facilities to identify potential fire hazards and ensure compliance with fire codes and regulations.
  • Review and inspect fire plans and scopes of work to ensure compliance with fire codes and standards.
  • Consult with designers, engineers, and contractors to ensure that fire safety systems and equipment meet University standards.
  • Develop and implement fire safety training programs for University staff and students.
  • Collaborate with other campus safety teams to ensure a comprehensive approach to fire safety and emergency response.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A bachelor's degree in fire science, fire protection engineering, or a related field.
  • At least five years of experience in fire code enforcement, fire inspection, or fire protection.
  • Proven experience in reviewing and inspecting commercial fire alarm and fire protection systems.
  • Proficiency with permitting software and a demonstrated ability to learn new software quickly.
  • A valid driver's license and a personal vehicle for travel to inspection sites.
