Company Overview:

Russell Tobin is a prominent player in the fire and gas protection systems sector, seeking a dedicated Fire & Gas Systems Project Engineer to oversee the technical dimensions of assigned projects from inception to completion.

Role Overview:

The selected candidate will be responsible for ensuring compliance with industry standards, including NFPA72, Life Safety Code NFPA 101, and NEC, while addressing various challenges associated with these regulations.

Work Schedule: 1st Shift

Compensation: $85,000-$105,000/year

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate hardware and software specifications prior to and following order confirmation.
  • Advise the Project Manager on any discrepancies and guide the project team to meet customer expectations, budget, timeline, and technical objectives.
  • Act as the representative for the Systems Engineering department during client kickoff and design review meetings.
  • Organize project tasks to align with the schedule and delegate responsibilities to support staff or other technical personnel as necessary.
  • Address technical issues with clients promptly during project execution, assessing when changes affect contract pricing or project scope.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive Fire & Gas System Documentation, including layout drawings, assembly diagrams, electrical schematics, and configuration documents.
  • Develop detailed bills of materials for procurement and manufacturing to meet project specifications.
  • Coordinate with software engineering to provide necessary documentation for programming.
  • Conduct final internal system checks to certify performance accuracy and notify the Project Manager upon completion.
  • Facilitate client acceptance testing at the manufacturing facility as required.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the development and maintenance of an AutoCAD standards library for the Project Engineering department.
  • Support proposal efforts by specifying equipment requirements to meet project specifications.

Educational Qualifications:

  • BSEE degree or a minimum of five years of experience in fire alarm system design. Additional experience in control systems, fire alarm control panels, PLCs, safety systems, petrochemical, or munitions is advantageous.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • NICET Level III certification in Fire Alarm Systems is preferred; Level I is the minimum requirement.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD or similar design software, with experience in producing shop drawings; familiarity with AutoCAD Electrical is a plus.
  • Experience with JDE or other ERP systems for parts and project maintenance is beneficial.
  • Strong team collaboration, planning, organizational, time management, and communication skills are essential. Ability to manage multiple projects efficiently and accurately.
  • Familiarity with Detector Electronics Corporation products and system integration practices is considered a plus.
