Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Research Histology Lab Supervisor to partner with the BLS Program Director, to lead the daily operations of our Research Histology and Digital Imaging Lab within the University of Minnesota's CTSI.

The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting and advancing the research objectives of the department by providing expert histological services, supervising laboratory personnel, and ensuring the highest standards of quality and safety in laboratory operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Laboratory Management & Supervision (50%): Oversee the daily operations of the research histology lab, ensuring efficient workflow and high-quality output. Supervise and train laboratory personnel, including histotechnologists, technicians, and assistants.
  • Technical Expertise & Development (25%): Perform advanced histological procedures, including tissue processing, embedding, sectioning, staining, and microscopy. Develop and optimize new techniques and protocols for histological analysis to support research projects.
  • Research & Collaboration (15%): Participate in research activities, including data collection, analysis, and publication of findings in peer-reviewed journals. Foster collaborative relationships with faculty, researchers, and external partners to support research goals.
  • Quality Control & Safety (10%): Establish and maintain quality control measures to ensure accuracy and reliability of histological preparations. Ensure compliance with biosafety, chemical safety, and waste disposal regulations.
Qualifications
  • Baccalaureate degree or higher in Histology, Pathology, Biological Sciences, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a histology lab.
  • Certification as a Histotechnician (HT) by the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent.
