An Anesthesia Support Specialist plays a crucial role in assisting with the administration and monitoring of anesthesia, possessing a comprehensive understanding of anesthesia methodologies, instruments, supplies, and technologies.


Key Responsibilities:
1. Operates, calibrates, and conducts routine maintenance on various technical devices utilized in the operating room.

2. Identifies malfunctioning equipment, troubleshoots issues, and escalates significant problems to the appropriate technical repair teams.


3. Aids in establishing and maintaining a consistent schedule for the proper upkeep and calibration of monitors used in anesthesia administration.

4. Organizes and oversees the overall functionality of the anesthesia workroom.

5. Cleans, decontaminates, and sterilizes equipment following CDC guidelines to mitigate the risk of infectious and contagious diseases.

6. Ensures anesthesia workstations are adequately stocked.

7. Maintains a sufficient inventory of supplies and collaborates with the materials coordinator for inventory management and ordering.

8. Assists anesthesia providers in preparing supplies and equipment for surgical procedures, which may include IV sets, pressure monitoring lines, or epidurals.

9. Aids in positioning and supporting patients for regional anesthesia procedures such as spinals or epidurals.


10. Demonstrates knowledge of aseptic techniques for blood collection and the use of equipment like blood gas kits and hemacue devices.

11. Conducts daily safety pre-operative checks of each anesthesia delivery machine before its initial use in the morning.

12. Supports anesthesia personnel in turnover activities between surgical cases.

13. Capable of caring for patients across all age groups, adapting and modifying practices within established guidelines.

Qualifications:

Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certifications:
BLS certification is mandatory.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Possesses practical knowledge of standard instruments and treatment procedures commonly employed in anesthesia administration.
