Key Responsibilities:
As a Supplier Development Engineer, you will:
1. Drive enhancements within the supply chain by minimizing defects, optimizing processes, and ensuring timely project completions.
2. Ensure suppliers are fully aware of and adhere to company standards and requirements.
3. Analyze the end-use of supplied products to identify value-added and value-engineering opportunities using lean methodologies.
4. Report directly to the Purchasing Manager while coordinating efforts with the Quality Assurance Manager.
5. Develop and maintain strong internal relationships and effective communication with quality, purchasing, and engineering teams.
6. Conduct site audits of suppliers to verify compliance with control plans and process controls, and complete supplier quality system audit reports.
7. Facilitate the resolution of issues stemming from misunderstandings of product specifications and tolerances.
8. Participate in project team meetings to ensure clarity in quality and operational procedures.
9. Coordinate gage repeatability and reliability studies at suppliers as necessary.
10. Provide technical insights for strategic sourcing initiatives, including supplier capability assessments and product implementation.
11. Manage cost reduction and performance improvement projects related to value analysis/value engineering and supplier manufacturing processes.
12. Act as a liaison between company quality assurance and supplier quality assurance to ensure consistency in inspection methods.
13. Engage in technical discussions with suppliers to identify and implement product and process improvements.
Work Schedule:
This exempt-level position typically requires a commitment of eight or more hours per day, five days a week, depending on business needs. Daytime hours are standard, but occasional evening or weekend work may be necessary.
Physical Requirements:
The physical demands of this role include regular communication, standing, walking, sitting, and manual dexterity. The employee may occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds and must possess specific vision abilities, including close vision and depth perception.
Work Environment:
The work environment includes typical office and manufacturing settings that require personal protective equipment. Employees may encounter moving mechanical parts and loud noise levels.
Qualifications:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient technical skills, including the ability to interpret technical drawings and understand geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
- Competence in using computer applications such as MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Effective problem-solving and project management abilities.
- A Bachelor's Degree with five years of experience in supply chain, quality, or related fields, including three years in the metal forming or steel industry.
- Willingness to travel as required (up to 50%) and possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record.
- Must reside within a commutable distance.
- US Person as defined by ITAR/EAR regulations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, Logistics, or Business.
- Experience in conflict resolution.
- Knowledge of roll forming or welding processes.
