Job Definition:


The Senior Recovery Advocate will provide support, advocacy, and linkage services to individuals and their affected families in emergency departments due to substance use or overdose. A valid driver's license is required.

Education Required:


A high school diploma or equivalent is necessary. An associate, undergraduate, or master's degree is a plus. Knowledge of substance use disorder prevention, treatment, and referrals is essential. CRPA or CRPA-Provisional certification is also beneficial.

Experience Required:


Relevant life experience is necessary, including personal experience with a disability, history of substance use, or social/emotional challenges. The ability to draw upon this experience to serve as a role model and support recovery goals is crucial. A valid driver's license is required.



Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Coordinate incoming referrals and assign tasks to other Recovery Advocates/Specialists.
  • Provide monthly reports of RedCap baselines and follow-ups.
  • Report and communicate performance of all Recovery Specialists to the Program Supervisor and Director on a weekly basis.
  • Create correspondences and communications with Northwell Staff regarding RedCap issues.
  • Coordinate transportation and rideshare for clients.
  • Engage with individuals on the street and in hospital emergency rooms, developing brief person-centered service plans, providing referrals, and linkages to needed services.
  • Provide outreach, advocacy, mentoring, and recovery support services to those seeking or sustaining recovery.
  • Collaborate with Hospital SBIRT Health Coaches to meet with individuals and/or family/significant others at local hospitals or agreed-upon locations to assess needs and connect them to treatment and other support services.
  • Remain in an active role and provide follow-up on individuals and/or families at 30, 60, 90, and 120 days post-discharge from the ED.
  • Collect necessary data to assist in reporting to funding sources and/or hospital systems.
  • Act as a liaison between the Program and the communities it serves.
  • Represent the Program in a professional and knowledgeable manner.
  • Assist in promoting the Program through information and education about its services to the communities it serves.
  • Provide direct outreach to courts, attorneys, hospitals, probation, parole, DSS, CPS, DDP, MDs, schools, and various other community groups with direct referral back to the Agency and its Program(s) if necessary.
  • Represent the Program at various community events, such as Narcan Trainings, Fairs, Forums, etc.
  • Assist in creating flyers and promotion information with and under the direction of the Program Director(s).
  • Document and report on contacts made in the community with the Program Director(s) and hospital reporting system.
  • Complete QI Training during onboarding and participate in QI refresher training as needed.
  • Facilitate sharing of data with individuals to whom it applies to facilitate partnered decision-making and keep clients informed of progress.
  • Ability to cultivate a culture of inclusion for all employees that respects their individual strengths, views, and experiences.
  • Identify and implement quality improvement trainings and activities as part of professional development goals.
  • Encourage quality improvement processes and provide consistent resources for QI and professional development.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for all employees.
  • Other duties and assignments as requested by the Team Leader.
