Job Summary

Harvard University seeks a seasoned Senior Director of Gift Planning to lead a high-performing team in developing and executing strategic plans to maximize philanthropic support for the Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS). As a key member of the FAS Development team, this individual will collaborate with colleagues across the University to foster a culture of collaboration, respect, and inclusivity.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute comprehensive gift planning strategies to engage high-net-worth individuals and their advisors.
  • Lead a team of Gift Planning professionals in researching, developing, and executing gift plans, including complex gift planning and tax strategies.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in Research and Prospect Management to identify planned giving prospects and develop strategies to cultivate and solicit gifts.
  • Partner with colleagues in Communications and Direct Marketing to develop gift planning marketing and stewardship plans, as well as gift planning collateral materials.
  • Oversee the John Harvard Society, the comprehensive bequest and testamentary gift program, and promote legacy giving/bequest intentions among Harvard alumni.
  • Stay up-to-date on current issues relating to the gift planning profession and maintain a professional external presence in the planned giving community.
Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree and at least 12 years of gift planning or fundraising experience, or comparable work experience gained within the legal or financial professions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to think strategically and innovatively.
  • Travel and some overnight and weekend work is required.
