Potential Duties and Responsibilities May Include

  • Engineering and inspection services for transportation infrastructure, pedestrian pathways, and bridge construction projects.
  • Stormwater management inspections for best management practices (BMP), low impact development (LID), and green infrastructure (GI) systems.
  • Inspections related to stormwater conveyance systems and drainage structures.
  • Oversight inspections for retrofitting stormwater management facilities, stream restoration initiatives, and outfall stabilization projects.
  • Inspections for erosion and sediment control (ESC), Virginia Stormwater Management Permit (VSMP), and Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) across diverse project types and scales.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities May Include
  • Post-inspection processing of photographic evidence, documentation, and field measurements.
  • Preparation and compilation of detailed inspection reports.
  • Supervision and inspection of contractual field operations, including earthworks, drainage systems, structural components, pavement, and ancillary construction activities.
  • Effective communication and coordination with project contractors and site supervisors.
  • Verification and coordination of pay items.
  • Monitoring and enforcement of erosion and sediment control measures and safety protocols.
  • Ensuring compliance with project plans and specifications during construction.
  • Maintaining comprehensive project records.
Minimum Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Proficient in operating computer systems, software applications, and field inspection tools.
  • Ability to interpret and analyze construction drawings.
  • Capacity to work effectively within a team setting.
  • Strong communication skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Willingness to work outdoors year-round under varying weather conditions and challenging terrains.
  • Ability to successfully complete a criminal background check.
  • Valid Virginia Driver's License.
Preferred Requirements
  • Associate's degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Virginia DEQ Inspector certifications (ESC, SWIN, and/or Dual Inspector).
  • Experience with GIS platforms and mobile data collection tools (Collector, Field Maps, and/or Survey123).
