Position Overview:


The Hematology and Oncology Department within Emory's School of Medicine is in search of a Research Scientist with extensive expertise in immunology, particularly in the context of in vitro and in vivo cancer research.

The successful candidate will possess over 5 years of postdoctoral experience, demonstrating proficiency in cellular immune assays, flow cytometry, and mouse colony management, while managing multiple scientific initiatives concurrently.

This role involves training and supervising laboratory personnel, including technicians, postdoctoral researchers, and students within the Dhodapkar group, to expedite pre-clinical investigations aimed at uncovering immune mechanisms and therapeutic strategies for multiple myeloma and other malignancies.


Priority Qualifications:
Applicants with a strong background in human and/or mouse immunology, flow cytometry, and mouse model systems will be given preference.


The Research Scientist will undertake a variety of complex and technical research responsibilities, showcasing documented scientific accomplishments and progressively advanced technical, managerial, leadership, and professional skills essential for the advancement of basic and/or translational research initiatives.


Key Responsibilities:


Exhibit comprehensive knowledge of research methodologies and experimental frameworks for data analysis, design, and interpretation. Propose and evaluate alternative strategies to enhance the quality of outcomes in basic and/or translational research.


Demonstrate increased accountability through team management and leadership of scientific projects, applying advanced expertise necessary for protocol development and facilitating training for team members.

Assist in the preparation of IACUC, IRB, Biosafety, and other regulatory documents.

Ensure quality assurance of research conducted by team members.


May contribute to grant applications and funding proposals as needed, or, with the approval of the faculty director, may lead independent research projects or manage specific areas of instrumentation or methodology development.

With the faculty director's consent, may serve as principal investigators on funded research proposals.

Oversee animal research activities, including management of transgenic mouse colonies, development and updates of IACUC protocols, controlled substance documentation, and mouse inventory management.

Lead scientific projects assigned by laboratory principal investigators.

Supervise staff, mentor students and staff, and ensure compliance with laboratory standards.

Perform additional responsibilities as required.

Minimum Qualifications:


PhD or MD with five years of relevant professional experience OR a Master's degree with ten years of relevant professional experience in a technical or research laboratory setting.

Laboratory experience will be determined based on the specific area of assignment.


Internship or pre-degree experience is not considered eligible work experience for this position.
