Lone Star College provides affordable, high-quality academic transfer and career training education to over 80,000 students each semester. It has been recognized as a 2023 Great Colleges to Work For institution by the Chronicle of Higher Education.

LSC comprises eight colleges, seven centers, eight Workforce Centers of Excellence, and Lone Star Corporate College.

Located on 200 acres of scenic pine woods, LSC-North Harris is the original and largest college in the Lone Star College System. With over three decades of service to the community, LSC-North Harris offers more than 60 programs of study, including university-transfer and various educational courses and programs, with a strong emphasis on cutting-edge technology in emerging job fields.


Position Overview

The Advisor II acts as the primary contact and resource for students, providing guidance and tracking their academic progress towards degree completion. This position offers academic advice regarding degree planning, program requirements, course selection, and schedule creation. It also educates students on LSC's policies and relevant state and federal regulations.


Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the designated campus advisor for students regarding their academic progress.
  • Provide personalized, one-on-one academic advising on degree requirements and appropriate course selection.
  • Assist students in transitioning smoothly to four-year institutions.
  • Coordinate with College Relations and universities to organize transfer events.
  • Monitor and report on the progress of a cohort group of students, focusing on success, retention, and completion rates.
  • Help students develop their My Educational Plan (MEP) and advise on course prerequisites and recommended sequences.
  • Inform students about available resources and services at the campus.
  • Review degree plans, approve or deny graduation requests, and manage student registration repeals.
  • Develop workshops and recruitment events, advising students on employment opportunities in their fields of study.
  • Advise international students on immigration issues and ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Participate in various committees and meetings related to student success and engagement.

Qualifications

Required: Bachelor's degree and a minimum of three years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred: Experience in a higher education environment and working with students facing unique challenges.
