The College of St. Scholastica, Inc. is seeking a highly motivated and experienced professional to serve as the Assistant Director of Outdoor Programs and Leadership Development. This role will be responsible for leading the Outdoor Pursuit department, which includes the indoor climbing and bouldering walls, equipment rental center, outdoor trips, events, clinics, student guide development, outdoor pre-orientation trips, and support for other college outdoor initiatives.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in outdoor recreation, experiential education, and leadership development. They will be responsible for planning, administering, supervising, and managing daily operations and budgets for the Outdoor Pursuit department. This includes expanding the College's outdoor experiential learning program and opportunities to support student engagement and retention.
The Assistant Director will also be responsible for directing Pre-Orientation programs, such as August Adventures Programs, including management of communication, marketing, funding sources, revenue opportunities, and program collaboration. They will collaborate with various on-campus departments to increase student engagement, retention, learning, and well-being.
The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to safety and risk management, and will be responsible for overseeing and ensuring a high safety training and risk management standard for all outdoor programs. They will also be responsible for managing the Outdoor Pursuit Rental Shop and online gear rental software for internal and external parties, including all financial and inventory management.
The Assistant Director will serve on the Student Affairs Leadership Team (SALT) and Belonging and Engagement Team, and will advise all student outdoor clubs. They will also be responsible for developing and facilitating effective student leadership training, and implementing and maintaining an Emergency Action Plan (EAP) with key stakeholders within the college.
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's Degree in outdoor recreation, experiential education, outdoor education, physical education, recreation or related field, and three years of outdoor programming/teaching experience in a college or other experiential learning setting. They will also have significant training and experience in safety management in outdoor settings, and will be certified in Rock Climbing, Wilderness Medicine, and Paddlesports.
