Position Overview

This role is part of the Global Technology Infrastructure & Operations team (GTIO), dedicated to delivering modern and relevant technology that underpins McDonald's operations. We offer best-in-class foundational technology products and services, including Global Networking, Cloud, End User Computing, and IT Service Management, with the aim of providing an engaging, relevant, and straightforward experience for our users.

The Senior Platform Manager (Restaurant Compute) is a key member of the Restaurant Infrastructure & Operations Platform team within GTIO. Reporting to the Director of the Restaurant Infrastructure & Operations Platform, this position is responsible for overseeing the core Restaurant Compute platform, which encompasses tools, processes, and services related to hosting, orchestration, and integration.

This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned technology leader to influence the evolution of infrastructure and operations products and services across the McDonald's ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the platform management strategy and implement short-term strategies for specific components of the Restaurant Compute platform.
  • Enhance team performance by supervising the work of engineers and architects.
  • Identify and resolve defined issues, adapting processes to meet user needs.
  • Establish and uphold platform quality standards.
  • Collaborate with the Hardware Solutions team to align hardware solution standards with Restaurant Compute platform requirements.
  • Maintain a prioritized platform roadmap that aligns with the overall platform strategy and internal team objectives.
  • Guide platform architecture and make critical decisions.
  • Manage partner relationships, ensuring product teams are aligned with the platform roadmap.
  • Provide insights into global restaurant standards to ensure consistency.
  • Coordinate with internal leaders and teams on their strategies and plans for individual solutions.
  • Break down complex challenges into manageable solutions, applying strong, data-driven judgment.
  • Identify core challenges or opportunities within business processes and understand their root causes and impacts.
  • Eliminate bottlenecks to empower teams to operate independently, encouraging proactive identification of gaps and opportunities.
  • Invest time in coaching team members to enhance their skills and address skill gaps.
Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Commitment to embodying McDonald's values: Serve, Inclusion, Integrity, Community, and Family.
  • Proven knowledge of Virtualization Management and Container Orchestration platforms.
  • Experience with large-scale distributed Infrastructure CI/CD implementations.
  • Understanding of platform capabilities such as Messaging, Logging, and Secrets Management.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft System Center, Ansible, Jamf, or similar Systems Management technologies.
  • Experience with large-scale Asset Inventory solutions and reporting.
  • Knowledge of Windows Server, Windows Client, and Linux-based Operating Systems and their management.
  • Expertise in large-scale infrastructure/device configuration and management in a retail environment.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code implementations (Terraform, Chef, Puppet, AWS Cloud Formation).
  • Demonstrated experience with data analytics and the creation of actionable dashboards and reports.
  • Understanding of Privileged Access Management concepts and security toolsets.
  • Experience collaborating across a complex, global organization.
  • Strategic capabilities, including business case creation and backlog prioritization.
  • Impact-driven approach with the ability to articulate goals and foster alignment.
  • Experience in a leadership role within an agile product development environment.
  • Proven ability to manage technical products from vague problem statements to clear solutions.
  • Experience in managing technical priorities and driving strategic initiatives.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to use data to inform product strategy and measure success.
  • Excellent written communication and interpersonal skills, capable of conveying complex ideas in a clear manner.
  • Customer-centric mindset in leading product development.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and Platform as a Service (PaaS).
  • Familiarity with on-premise, Edge, and Cloud platform design patterns.
  • Ability to influence and partner across product and platform teams in a global engineering context.
  • Experience managing programs and developing financial forecasts.

Experience:

  • 8+ years in technical product management or relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree, or 6+ years with a Master's degree.
  • 1+ years working with restaurant or retail hardware solutions.
  • 3+ years in leadership roles, including team management.
  • Experience leading technical teams on significant system implementations.
  • Experience influencing senior leaders and setting expectations for multi-functional initiatives.
