About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Development, Major Gifts to join our team at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH). As a key member of our Development Office, you will play a critical role in strengthening our philanthropic program and achieving our fundraising goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a portfolio of high-level donors and prospects, with a focus on securing major gifts for pediatric department fundraising efforts.
  • Develop and execute strategic plans to identify, cultivate, and solicit donors, working closely with hospital leadership and senior staff.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across fundraising teams to achieve team and overall Development Office fundraising goals.
  • Document work in a donor database and maintain accurate records of donor interactions.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of MGH's research, clinical, teaching, and community missions to effectively communicate with donors and internal colleagues.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • 7-10 years of experience in major gifts fundraising, with a proven track record of securing significant donations.
  • A comprehensive understanding of major gifts fundraising principles and practices.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills, with the ability to influence others and build strong relationships.
  • Experience managing and engaging with leadership volunteers, as well as motivating and collaborating with diverse audiences.
  • Ability to think strategically and manage multiple individual and team projects effectively.
  • Problem-solving skills and sound judgment, with a strong work ethic and professionalism.
