Position Overview

The Lead Vehicle Safety Simulation Engineer will utilize advanced CAE tools to spearhead and direct the design process. This role entails conducting comprehensive vehicle crash simulations, including frontal, side, and rear impacts, in accordance with established safety standards such as FMVSS, USNCAP, and IIHS, employing Ls Dyna software.

Key Responsibilities

  • Utilize pre-processing tools like ANSA and HYPERMESH to develop and troubleshoot full vehicle crash models.
  • Employ META or HYPERWORKS for the post-processing of simulation results.
  • Provide insightful recommendations aimed at enhancing vehicle design based on simulation outcomes.
  • Analyze results meticulously to identify problems and derive optimized solutions through multiple crash simulation iterations.
  • Engage in both component and vehicle testing, correlating CAE results with empirical test data.
  • Implement advanced methodologies such as DOE/DFSS to refine and optimize design processes.
  • Generate detailed reports to communicate simulation findings and design improvements.
  • Collaborate effectively with design teams, manufacturing units, and suppliers to ensure optimal vehicle performance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Master's degree or PhD is highly regarded.
  • 8-10 years of experience in executing full vehicle crash simulations.
  • Proficiency in Ls Dyna, ANSA, META, HYPERWORKS, and PRIMER.
  • Familiarity with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, USNCAP, and IIHS.
  • Understanding of optimization tools and techniques.
  • Ability to apply engineering principles throughout the development process.
  • Capacity to work autonomously from initiation to completion.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Team-oriented mindset with strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience in correlating CAE and test results is essential.
  • Preferred experience in FEA modeling of long fiber composite components.
  • Experience in the development of body-on-frame (BOF) structures is advantageous.
