Senior Market Analytics Specialist

Role Objective
The Strategy & Technology division is pivotal in steering the strategic vision of National Grid Renewables. As the clean energy landscape evolves rapidly, this team spearheads the creation of innovative commercial frameworks and business strategies. The Senior Analyst will deliver expert insights and comprehensive analyses of U.S. electricity markets, facilitating project development, origination, and strategic decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct detailed nodal modeling and analysis of designated U.S. electricity markets to inform investment choices, business planning, and strategic initiatives.
- Oversee, enhance, and maintain proprietary electricity market models and databases to ensure optimal functionality.
- Communicate and clarify market model inputs and outputs to stakeholders involved in project development, corporate affairs, and commercial operations, providing critical market analysis and assessments.
- Monitor and evaluate market trends, delivering insights on significant changes.
- Research and track essential regulatory updates within specific markets by attending relevant conferences and ISO meetings.
- Establish yourself as a leading expert in electricity markets, both internally and externally.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or a related quantitative discipline (focus on power systems preferred).
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in quantitative analysis, electricity market modeling, consulting, or energy trading.
- Proficient in advanced Excel, with skills in Python, VBA, SQL, or similar programming languages.
- Comprehensive understanding of U.S. power industry structures, policies, regulations, and market fundamentals.
- Awareness of current trends in conventional generation, renewables, gas, energy storage, transmission, and distributed generation.
- Strong grasp of transmission systems, power flow principles, and Locational Marginal Pricing (LMP) formation.
- Ability to translate model results into actionable business insights and articulate their implications.
- Experience in developing and utilizing market and financial models, including commercial production cost modeling software such as ProMOD, PLEXOS, Aurora, Gridview, GE MAPS, PSO, Dayzer, etc.
- Familiarity with linear algebra, linear programming, and optimization theory.
- Specific experience analyzing the ERCOT market is highly desirable.
