Position Overview:

The Substance Abuse Counselor will deliver counseling services, including the identification, screening, and assessment of clients to evaluate their need for substance use treatment. This role involves making referrals to community organizations and coordinating care as necessary. The counselor will facilitate both group and individual therapeutic sessions and is responsible for maintaining comprehensive, OASAS-compliant case records.

Direct Supervisor: Director of Behavioral Health Services

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct intake assessments, biopsychosocial evaluations, and mental health screenings.
  • Develop and review treatment plans, acting as the case manager to coordinate care both within CCA and with external providers.
  • Provide individual counseling, including weekly sessions with clients, referrals to community resources (healthcare, social services, etc.), and managing client schedules.
  • Initiate and maintain client records in compliance with organizational policies.
  • Ensure accurate and timely entry of all client data into the agency's database, utilizing an electronic health record system.
  • Lead assigned treatment groups.
  • Administer drug testing as required.
  • Prepare monthly reports for courts or other supervising entities.
  • Engage in treatment team case reviews.
  • Consult with other professionals to support client treatment.
  • Complete discharge documentation as necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Required: LMSW or CASAC (CASAC preferred for social workers).
  • Minimum of two years of clinical or case management experience with clients experiencing substance use disorders.
  • Preferred: Experience with the criminal justice population.
  • Required: Proficiency in computer skills (word processing, email, internet research, data entry).
  • Required: Ability to utilize an electronic health record system.
  • Preferred: Bilingual (English/Spanish).
  • Relevant personal experience in recovery or justice involvement is a plus.
