  • Assists partners and oversees CICC personnel in coordinating the review of prospective clients with the firm's intake and other committees.
  • Assists partners and oversees CICC personnel in drafting engagement terms, waivers, and other agreements pertaining to conflicts of interest, new client and matter intake, and the firm's relationship with its clients and other parties.
  • Participates as needed in the negotiation and documentation of the same.
  • Assists partners and business support teams, and oversees CICC personnel, in reviewing outside counsel guidelines and other client-tendered engagement terms with relevant stakeholders.
  • Assists partners and business support teams, and oversees CICC personnel, in the assessment and resolution of conflicts of interest pertaining to lateral hires and secondments.
  • Advises partners and business support teams, and oversees CICC personnel, in the implementation and maintenance of ethical walls.
  • Reviews, analyzes, and summarizes conflict reports and leads all aspects of the conflicts resolution process, as appropriate.
  • Acts as a general subject matter resource with respect to conflicts of interest, intake, and other risk and compliance considerations for partners, the Office of the General Counsel, CICC personnel, and other support teams.
  • Leads calls among the Office of the General Counsel, practice group leadership, and other stakeholders to assist in deliberations and decision-making regarding complex firm conflict and intake scenarios.
  • Participates in the management, oversight, and development of department personnel, including with respect to the ongoing training of the departments Conflicts Attorneys and Conflicts Analysts.
  • Supports the Office of the General Counsel, partners, firm leadership, and CICC personnel, as needed, in evaluating and responding to conflicts or other claims or inquiries that may be made by clients or third parties.
  • Assists in monitoring developments in conflicts of interest law and related market practices and makes recommendations for changes to department and firm policies and procedures.
  • Assists in training firm personnel in conflict of interest rules and procedures and other risk and compliance subjects.

Qualifications:J.D. required. At least five (5) years law practice, or conflicts experience, at a large law firm preferred. Strong evaluative, problem-solving, research, writing, and organizational skills. Excellent service orientation and verbal and written communication skills. Possesses superior leadership and mentoring abilities to guide department personnel in reaching goals.Knowledge of Conflict of Interest Principles:The Conflicts Counsel should have a strong understanding of conflict of interest principles, including the ability to utilize third-party and proprietary research tools and databases, apply the laws of professional responsibility in identifying and resolving actual and potential conflicts of interest, and determine when it is appropriate and/or necessary to escalate an issue to the Director of CICC or the Office of the General Counsel.Compensation and Total Rewards Package:Ropes & Gray offers a comprehensive Total Rewards package to its business support team members, including comprehensive health and well-being benefits, personal and professional development, career growth opportunities, and a collegial and supportive culture.Working Conditions:This position requires hybrid on-site presence as an essential function of the role.
