About the Department:

The office of the Associate Dean plays a pivotal role in spearheading research initiatives within the College of Engineering and Computing. This office collaborates extensively with various leaders across the institution, including those from the President and Provost's offices, as well as department heads and center directors.

About the Position:

The Senior Research Faculty member will take charge of advancing research in workforce development, particularly in the realm of national security, within the College of Engineering and Computing (CEC). The role primarily involves conducting sponsored research aimed at enhancing the professional development of engineers, scientists, technologists, executives, and managers associated with the Department of Defense (DoD) and the Defense Industrial Base. Additionally, the incumbent will also serve as an educator for professional development and academic courses in systems engineering and related disciplines. The position may require the individual to act as a Principal Investigator (PI) or Co-Principal Investigator (Co-PI) on various projects, while also fulfilling other roles as necessary. Furthermore, as a leader in technology and innovation, the individual will provide guidance and support to the CEC Associate Dean for Research (ADR) on matters related to engineering workforce development research.

Responsibilities:

Assume the role of Principal Investigator (PI), Co-Principal Investigator (Co-PI), and senior researcher in accordance with institutional policies, ensuring the execution of objective research that yields independent, high-quality, and reproducible results and publications. Teaching responsibilities may also be included; Offer strategic advice to the Associate Dean for Research (ADR) regarding workforce development research, particularly in relation to national security, and undertake additional duties aligned with the incumbent's expertise and seniority as assigned by the ADR.

Required Qualifications:

PhD in Systems Engineering or a terminal degree in a relevant field; Proven experience as Principal Investigator (PI) on multiple federally funded research projects focusing on workforce development for the Department of Defense (DoD) and the Defense Industrial Base; Background in collaborating with leaders across various DoD components; Experience in teaching part-time for federal agencies and civilian contractors; Extensive academic experience post-PhD affiliated with a major research center, such as a University Affiliated Research Center (UARC) or consortium; Comprehensive knowledge of technical and program management; Strong skills in leading and engaging in research aimed at developing a technical workforce for DoD and other federal entities; Recognized presence in the Systems Engineering professional community; Accomplished speaker at conferences and workshops, with a strong publication record; Proven track record as a researcher with significant sponsored research awards as PI or Co-PI; US Citizenship with the capability to obtain a Secret clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

Similar experience as noted above, but also including non-DoD agencies and contractors; Active Secret clearance.
