Job Summary

The Sanitation and Maintenance Specialist maintains a clean, safe, and attractive environment for students, staff, and visitors at the Salt Lake City School District. This role involves cleaning assigned school facilities, arranging furniture and equipment, and minimizing property damage and liability exposure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Clean assigned school facilities, including classrooms, offices, gym, multipurpose rooms, pools, and grounds, to maintain a sanitary, safe, and attractive environment.
  • Arrange furnishings and equipment to provide adequate preparations for meetings, classroom activities, and events.
  • Perform tasks that require lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 30 pounds, as well as stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
  • Assist in securing facilities and grounds to minimize property damage, equipment loss, and potential liability to the organization.
  • Attend in-service training to receive information on new and improved procedures.
  • On occasion, may be required to routinely sanitize restrooms according to department guidelines.
  • Support a team environment by collaborating with own and other work units to effectively perform the duties of the position.
  • Adapt to changing work priorities and work with frequent interruptions, as required.
  • Work under limited supervision, utilizing time-management and prioritization strategies, accurately processing detailed information and meeting deadlines.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance to fulfill job requirements efficiently and effectively.
Work Environment and Physical Demands

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 30 pounds, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 0% sitting, 50% walking, and 50% standing. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and in a generally hazard-free environment.
