Job Overview

A Bay-Area based, privately owned retail company with a national presence is in search of an Accounting Analyst to enhance our Accounting team. This position is pivotal in financial reporting, analysis, and report generation to facilitate informed decision-making.

The ideal candidate will possess a solid understanding of accounting principles, month-end processes, data analysis, and financial reporting, utilizing advanced reporting tools.

We seek a meticulous team player with robust analytical and problem-solving abilities, capable of identifying and rectifying errors and discrepancies in accounting.

The perfect candidate will have a keen interest in systems development and process improvement, demonstrating a proactive attitude.

Accounting Responsibilities

1. Audit transactional media across multiple stores for accuracy and completeness.
2. Trace transactions back to source documents to identify discrepancies.
3. Investigate posting variances.
4. Manage additions and deletions of bank signatures for all accounts.
5. Execute monthly closing activities, including journal maintenance, accruals, and allocation entries.
6. Conduct monthly reconciliations of various bank accounts.
7. Maintain support schedules for the balance sheet.
8. Prepare and file multi-state sales tax returns.
9. Complete property tax form 571-L for each location, including business license renewals.
10. Assist in the budget development and consolidation process.
11. Carry out ad hoc accounting tasks as assigned by the Controller.
12. Document new processes and procedures.
13. Perform necessary administrative duties.
14. Assist with miscellaneous overflow work.

Analyst Responsibilities

1. Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements.
2. Manage and analyze the inventory cycle count process.
3. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather essential data for financial reporting and analysis.
4. Develop and maintain financial reports and dashboards using advanced database tools and Excel to present key performance indicators and variances.
5. Serve as a subject matter expert on data sources and reporting tools.

Job Requirements

1. 4 to 6 years of accounting experience.
2. Bachelor's degree in Economics, Finance, or Accounting.
3. Proficiency in accounting software is required.

Intermediate to advanced Excel skills are essential, with the ability to utilize functions, features, and formulas for data organization, analysis, and complex calculations. Experience with financial reporting tools and the Cognos system is also required.
