Job Overview
The Graduate Student Assistant (GSA) plays a vital role in providing academic support within the university environment. This position requires independent work, sound judgment, and discretion. Responsibilities may include supervising students, evaluating academic submissions, organizing schedules, communicating via email, and delivering lectures. The GSA is expected to work a maximum of 20 hours per week throughout their contracted period.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate under the guidance of the Dean, Department Chair, or assigned Professor.
- Attend all relevant departmental events and Graduate School functions.
- Participate in orientations and training sessions as directed.
- Adhere to the Community Standards and Honor Code, as well as the Graduate Assistantship Handbook.
- Create and modify documents using PowerPoint, Excel, or Word.
- Track attendance using designated systems and update records accordingly.
- Supervise examinations, ensuring academic integrity and addressing student inquiries.
- Evaluate quizzes, tests, and written assignments within established deadlines.
- Communicate with students regarding attendance and course-related matters, ensuring timely responses.
- Manage excused absences and accommodations for students as needed.
- Maintain regular office hours for student interaction, either in person or through virtual platforms.
- Assist with various administrative tasks and departmental projects as assigned.
- Uphold Liberty University policies and represent the institution positively.
- Collaborate effectively with team members, promoting the mission of Liberty University.
Supervisory Duties
Supervisors of Graduate Assistants are responsible for adhering to the Graduate Assistantship Handbook and overseeing the GSA's tasks and responsibilities. They will monitor the GSA's academic, professional, social, and spiritual development and conduct evaluations at the end of the first semester for new hires and annually for returning assistants.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- A Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) from an accredited institution is preferred.
- Candidates must be accepted into or currently enrolled in a master's or doctoral program by the start date.
- Previous teaching experience is preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is required.
- Ability to understand and utilize technical systems relevant to the GSA role.
- Residency in the local area is necessary for on-campus reporting.

- Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential for conveying information clearly.
- Proficiency in English is required for effective correspondence.
- Public communication skills are necessary for professional representation of Liberty University.
