Job Summary

We are seeking a highly qualified and dedicated Elementary Education Teacher to join our team at Lynchburg City Schools. As an Elementary Education Teacher, you will be responsible for creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment that fosters academic excellence and social growth for our students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Instructional Strategies
    • Develop and implement lesson plans that align with the district's curriculum program and demonstrate a deep understanding of student learning styles.
    • Prepare lessons that cater to diverse learning needs and abilities.
    • Present subject matter in a clear and engaging manner, adhering to established guidelines and regulations.
    • Plan and utilize effective instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect an understanding of student learning styles and needs.
    • Conduct assessments of student learning styles and use results to inform instructional decisions.
    • Collaborate with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students, in accordance with Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
    • Work with colleagues to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods, ensuring alignment with district requirements.
    • Supervise and assign tasks to teacher aides and volunteers, as needed.
    • Utilize technology to enhance the teaching and learning process.
  • Student Growth and Development
    • Help students develop effective study habits and strategies.
    • Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal evaluations.
    • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities, as assigned, and sponsor outside activities approved by the principal.
    • Model positive behavior and support the mission of Lynchburg City Schools.
  • Classroom Management and Organization
    • Create a classroom environment that promotes learning and supports the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
    • Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
    • Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
    • Assist in the selection of instructional materials and resources.
  • Communication
    • Establish and maintain open communication with parents, students, principals, and colleagues.
    • Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
    • Effectively communicate information to students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Professional Growth and Development
    • Participate in staff development activities to enhance job-related skills.
    • Stay informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
    • Compile, maintain, and file all required reports, records, and documents.
    • Attend and participate in faculty meetings, serve on staff committees, and engage in student/parental involvement activities, as required.
    • Maintain confidentiality.
    • Complete other duties as assigned.

    Requirements
    • Candidate must possess or be eligible for a Virginia Teaching License with an endorsement in elementary education.
