Position Overview
Responsible for delivering anesthetic care to patients under the direct supervision of a Pediatric Anesthesiologist.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collects comprehensive medical histories and conducts physical examinations of patients.
  • Confirms patient identity, the procedure to be performed, and ensures informed consent has been secured from the parent or legal guardian. Verifies appropriate fasting times.
  • Evaluates the patient's pain management requirements prior to the procedure.
  • Reviews the patient's medical history and physical examination, considering age-specific needs for safe and effective anesthesia.
  • Collaborates with the supervising anesthesiologist to assess the patient's medical requirements and the technical demands of the procedure, determining the optimal pre-anesthetic medications and techniques.
  • Documents orders for pre-anesthetic medications.
  • Conducts pre-anesthesia equipment checks and organizes all assigned rooms for the daily schedule.
  • Participates in Time Out procedures, confirming patient identity, procedure, and site.
  • Administers the anesthetic plan in conjunction with the supervising anesthesiologist.
  • Inserts peripheral venous catheters, radial artery catheters, or central venous catheters as necessary under supervision.
  • Executes safe and effective techniques for mask ventilation, tracheal intubation, extubation, and mechanical ventilation.
  • Ensures anesthesia care adheres to infection control protocols and safety standards.
  • Continuously monitors the patient using pulse oximetry, capnography, EKG, non-invasive blood pressure, and temperature sensors, documenting findings every five minutes.
  • Adjusts anesthesia levels and modifies respiratory support as needed based on patient requirements.
  • Observes skin color and surgical field blood color, performing arterial blood gas analysis when necessary.
  • Monitors blood loss and urine output, recording data on the anesthesia record.
  • Manages fluid, blood, electrolyte, and acid-base balance in consultation with the supervising anesthesiologist.
  • Maintains vigilance and promptly informs the supervising anesthesiologist of any unexpected patient reactions.
  • Keeps detailed records of medications administered, techniques employed, and patient responses.
  • Assists in the resuscitation of critically ill or severely compromised patients.
  • Collaborates with team members to provide breaks and lunches for anesthesia personnel as time permits.
  • Delivers comprehensive reports on the patient's psychological and physical condition, peri-anesthetic course, and anticipated issues to the post-anesthesia care provider.
  • Conducts post-anesthesia evaluations of the patient's response and potential complications, taking corrective actions as needed.
  • Initiates and administers respiratory support to ensure adequate ventilation and oxygenation in the immediate post-anesthesia phase.
  • Provides pharmacological or fluid support to ensure cardiovascular stability if urgently required post-anesthesia.
  • Evaluates patients for discharge from the post-anesthesia care area.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree from an accredited Anesthesiologist Assistant program.
  • Certification as an Anesthesiologist Assistant from the National Commission for Certification of Anesthesiologist Assistants.
  • State licensure as an Anesthesiologist Assistant.
  • Current CPR BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Active PALS certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Current ACLS certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Successful completion of a Level II Background Check.
