Job Overview

The Pediatric Anesthesia Specialist is responsible for delivering anesthetic care to patients under the direct supervision of a Pediatric Anesthesiologist.

Key Responsibilities

  • Gather and assess the patient's medical history and conduct a thorough physical examination.
  • Confirm patient identity, the procedure to be performed, and ensure informed consent has been obtained from the parent or legal guardian, along with verifying adequate fasting times.
  • Evaluate the patient's pain management requirements prior to the procedure.
  • Review the patient's medical history and physical examination, considering age-specific needs to ensure a safe and effective anesthetic experience.
  • Collaborate with the supervising anesthesiologist to discuss the patient's unique medical needs and determine the appropriate pre-anesthetic medications and techniques.
  • Document orders for pre-anesthetic medications.
  • Conduct a pre-anesthesia equipment check and prepare all assigned rooms for the daily schedule.
  • Participate in safety protocols, including verification of patient identity and procedure.
  • Administer the agreed anesthetic plan in conjunction with the supervising anesthesiologist.
  • Insert necessary intravenous lines under supervision as required.
  • Perform safe and effective techniques for ventilation and intubation under supervision.
  • Ensure anesthesia care adheres to infection control standards and safety protocols.
  • Continuously monitor the patient using various medical devices and document findings regularly.
  • Adjust anesthesia levels and respiratory support based on the patient's needs.
  • Monitor vital signs and perform necessary assessments during the procedure.
  • Keep track of blood loss and urine output when applicable.
  • Manage fluid and electrolyte balance in consultation with the supervising anesthesiologist.
  • Maintain vigilance and promptly report any adverse reactions to the supervising anesthesiologist.
  • Document all medications administered and the patient's responses accurately.
  • Assist in the resuscitation of critically ill or compromised patients.
  • Work collaboratively with anesthesia personnel to ensure breaks and lunches are covered.
  • Provide comprehensive reports on the patient's condition and anticipated issues to the post-anesthesia care provider.
  • Conduct post-anesthesia evaluations and follow-ups to monitor the patient's recovery and address any complications.
  • Initiate respiratory support to ensure adequate ventilation in the immediate recovery phase.
  • Administer pharmacological or fluid support as needed for cardiovascular stability post-anesthesia.
  • Assess patients for discharge readiness from the post-anesthesia care area.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree from an accredited Anesthesiologist Assistant program.
  • Certification as an Anesthesiologist Assistant by the National Commission for Certification of Anesthesiologist Assistants.
  • Licensure as an Anesthesiologist Assistant in the State of Florida.
  • Current CPR BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Current PALS certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Current ACLS certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Successful completion of a Level II Background Check.
