The Pediatric Anesthesia Care Provider is responsible for delivering anesthetic services to pediatric patients under the direct supervision of a Pediatric Anesthesiologist.
Key Responsibilities
- Conducts thorough assessments of the patient's medical history and performs necessary physical examinations.
- Confirms patient identity, the intended procedure, and ensures informed consent has been secured from the parent or legal guardian, along with verifying NPO status.
- Evaluates the patient's pain management requirements prior to the anesthetic procedure.
- Reviews the patient's medical history and age-specific needs to ensure a safe anesthetic experience.
- Collaborates with the supervising anesthesiologist to determine appropriate pre-anesthetic medications and techniques tailored to the patient's needs.
- Documents orders for pre-anesthetic medications as required.
- Performs pre-anesthesia equipment checks and organizes all necessary resources for the scheduled procedures.
- Participates in the Time Out process to verify patient identity and procedure details.
- Administers the agreed anesthetic plan alongside the supervising anesthesiologist.
- Inserts necessary venous and arterial catheters under supervision as required.
- Executes safe techniques for ventilation and intubation under guidance.
- Ensures adherence to infection control protocols and anesthetic safety standards.
- Continuously monitors the patient using various devices and documents vital signs every five minutes.
- Adjusts anesthesia levels and respiratory support as needed based on patient responses.
- Observes critical indicators such as skin color and blood conditions during the procedure.
- Monitors fluid balance and records pertinent data throughout the anesthesia process.
- Manages the patient's fluid and electrolyte balance in collaboration with the supervising anesthesiologist.
- Maintains alertness and promptly informs the supervising anesthesiologist of any adverse reactions.
- Keeps detailed records of medications administered and patient responses.
- Assists in the resuscitation of patients in critical condition.
- Contributes to team efforts in providing support to anesthesia personnel during breaks.
- Delivers comprehensive reports on the patient's condition and anticipated post-anesthesia challenges to the healthcare provider taking over care.
- Conducts post-anesthesia evaluations to assess patient recovery and manage any complications.
- Initiates respiratory support as necessary to ensure patient ventilation post-anesthesia.
- Administers pharmacological or fluid support for cardiovascular stability when required.
- Evaluates patients for discharge readiness from the post-anesthesia care area.
Qualifications
- Master's Degree from an accredited Anesthesiologist Assistant program.
- Certification as an Anesthesiologist Assistant from the National Commission for Certification of Anesthesiologist Assistants.
- State licensure as an Anesthesiologist Assistant.
- Current CPR BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
- Current PALS certification from the American Heart Association.
- Current ACLS certification from the American Heart Association.
- Successful completion of a Level II Background Check.
