The Opportunity

The Institute for Simulation and Training (IST) within the School of Modeling, Simulation, and Training (SMST) at our institution is looking for a research faculty member at the level of research associate to engage in advanced research on simulation and training technologies. This is a full-time, 12-month, non-tenure track position funded by contracts and grants.

We seek an accomplished Artificial Intelligence (AI) researcher who can work autonomously and collaboratively to design, develop, modify, test, document, and sustain simulation software products. Additional responsibilities will include generating data and progress reports as mandated by government contracts. Some travel to client sites will be necessary for data collection and presenting findings from contracted work.

Minimum Qualifications:

A master's degree from an accredited institution with a proven record of academic research accomplishments, or professional qualifications in the field of artificial intelligence that exceed those equivalent to the highest degree.

Significant experience or education is required in at least three of the following areas:

• Generative AI and its direct application to modeling and simulation.

• Proficient knowledge of Python, C++, and C for optimal AI implementation.

• Application of AI within three-dimensional virtual environments.

• AI interfaces for 3D game engines (e.g., ML-Agents).

• Familiarity with OpenFlight file format and visual database correlation.

Preferred Qualifications:

A terminal degree in Artificial Intelligence or a related field from an accredited institution along with three years of relevant professional experience.

Additional preferences include:

• In-depth understanding of clustering knowledge and specific Kubernetes deployments utilizing GPUs for parallel AI processing.

• Expertise in advanced simulation techniques that leverage AI.

• Proficiency in modern rapid application development methodologies.

• Comprehensive knowledge of machine learning theory and direct application of DNN/CNN.

Additional Application Materials Required:

All applications and supporting documents must be submitted electronically through the Human Resources employment opportunities website. Along with the online application, candidates should upload a cover letter, a current curriculum vitae, and a list with contact information for three (3) professional references.

The selected candidate will be required to submit official transcripts (and, if applicable, U.S. degree equivalency evaluations) verifying the conferral of their qualifying academic credentials.

Special Instructions to the Applicants:

This is a full-time, non-tenure track, 12-month position supported by contracts and grants.

U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain security clearance are required due to the nature of the research conducted.

Occasional travel will be necessary for data collection and client meetings.
