Your Role

The Institute for Simulation and Training (IST) within the School of Modeling, Simulation, and Training (SMST) at the University of Central Florida (UCF) is seeking a research faculty member at the level of research associate to engage in pioneering research in simulation and training technologies. This is a full-time, 12-month, non-tenure earning position supported by contracts and grants.

We are looking for a seasoned Artificial Intelligence (AI) researcher who can work autonomously as well as collaboratively to design, develop, modify, test, document, and maintain simulation software products. Responsibilities will also include generating data and progress reports as required by government contracts. Some travel may be necessary for data collection and presenting research findings.

Essential Qualifications:

A master's degree from an accredited institution with a proven track record of academic research accomplishments, or professional qualifications in the field of artificial intelligence that exceed those equivalent to the highest degree.

Significant experience or education in at least three of the following areas is required:

• Generative AI and its application to modeling and simulation.

• Proficient in Python, C++, and C for optimal AI implementation.

• Application of AI within three-dimensional virtual environments.

• AI interfaces for 3D game engines (e.g., ML-Agents).

• Familiarity with OpenFlight file format and visual database correlation.

Preferred Qualifications:

A terminal degree in Artificial Intelligence or a related field from an accredited institution along with three years of relevant professional experience.

Additional preferences include:

• In-depth understanding of clustering knowledge and specific Kubernetes deployments utilizing GPUs for parallel AI processing.

• Knowledge of advanced simulation techniques that leverage AI.

• Competency in modern rapid application development methodologies.

• Comprehensive understanding of machine learning theory and practical application of DNN/CNN.

Application Materials Required:

All applications and supporting documents must be submitted electronically through the Human Resources employment opportunities website. In addition to the online application, candidates should upload a cover letter, a current curriculum vitae, and a list with contact information for three professional references.

The selected candidate will be required to submit official transcripts documenting the conferral of their qualifying academic credentials.

Note: Please prepare all documents for simultaneous upload during the application process, as the system does not allow for additional submissions later.

Special Instructions for Applicants:

This is a full-time, non-tenure earning, 12-month position supported by contracts and grants.

U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain security clearance are required due to the nature of the research conducted.

Occasional travel will be necessary for data collection and client meetings.
