Job Summary

VRC Companies is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Release of Information Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our VitalChart department, you will be responsible for processing medical records requests in a timely and efficient manner while ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process medical records requests from healthcare clients, prioritizing tasks based on turnaround timeframes and procedures.
  • Validate requests and signed patient authorizations for compliance with HIPAA and other applicable federal and state statutes.
  • Classify request types correctly and log requests into our ROI software.
  • Retrieve and upload requested portions of patient medical charts from electronic or physical repositories.
  • Perform Quality Control checks to ensure accuracy and avoid breaches of Protected Health Information (PHI).
  • Check for accurate invoicing and adjust invoices as needed.
  • Release requests to valid requesting entities and reject requests that are not HIPAA-compliant or otherwise valid.
  • Document exceptions, communications, and other relevant information related to requests in our ROI software.
  • Alert supervisors to any questionable or unusual requests or communications.
  • Ensure adequate office supplies are available to carry out tasks efficiently.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma (GED) required; degree preferred.
  • Prior experience with ROI fulfillment preferred.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Demonstrated documentation and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain productivity and quality performance.
  • Basic knowledge of medical records and HIPAA preferred.
  • Prior experience with EHR/EMR platforms and Windows environment preferred.
  • Strong computer skills and Microsoft Office skills required.
  • Ability to work 8 hours quietly at a computer screen and keyboard/mouse.
  • Ability to withstand pressures of constant deadlines and changing healthcare environment.
Working Conditions
  • Manual dexterity and strength sufficient to enter information via computer keyboard for long periods of time.
  • Eyesight sufficient to effectively read documents and accurately view information on a computer monitor.
  • Speaking and hearing ability sufficient to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to lift 20 pounds occasionally and 10 pounds frequently.
  • Ability to respond in a professional manner to angry customers and requestors.
