About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled Historical Preservation Specialist - Architectural Historian to join our team at S&ME. As a key member of our Environmental team, you will collaborate with project managers to conduct fieldwork and archival research, contributing to historical and architectural surveys and evaluations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct historical research in local, state, and regional libraries, archives, and government offices.
  • Perform historic resource surveys and assessments, including site visits, site plan sketches, and related duties.
  • Prepare historic property inventory forms, including statements of significance and architectural descriptions.
  • Document historic properties potentially impacted by state or federal undertakings.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in history, historic preservation, architectural history, or a closely related field.
  • Experience in historical research and writing, including the ability to present clear, precise, analytical, and authoritative arguments.
  • Proficiency in conducting architectural field surveys, completing state site forms, and utilizing geographic information system software.
  • Ability to travel regularly, including overnight, for project work as necessary.
