ROLE SUMMARY:
The Parenting/Prevention Specialist is responsible for delivering educational and preventive services to participants. Key responsibilities include engaging in outreach initiatives, attending community gatherings, public speaking, facilitating educational groups, and conducting individual and family sessions as per program guidelines. This role also involves collaborating with family members and school personnel, recruiting and screening potential participants, ensuring timely and accurate documentation, and maintaining effective communication with Operation PAR staff and partner organizations.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Understanding of substance abuse, violence prevention, and related strategies
- Familiarity with culturally competent practices
- Competence in assessment and appropriate referral
- Ability to engage positively with participants, colleagues, and community members
- Proficiency in timely and accurate documentation
- Skill in de-escalation techniques across diverse populations
- Capability to research and develop prevention programs and curricula
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE:
A Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year institution in Social Work, Human Services, or a related field is required. Alternatively, a Bachelor's degree in another discipline coupled with a minimum of two years of relevant experience working with adolescents and families is acceptable. Experience in prevention and educational roles is preferred.
CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:
- Valid Florida driver's license (Class D may be necessary)
- Successful completion of background checks and fingerprinting as mandated by funding sources
